The team behind the FIFA franchise -EA Sports- has been the king of the football simulation subgenre of sports gaming for years now. Competitors such as Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) and eFootball have never been able to dethrone FIFA from the top.
However, the release of EA Sports FC, the first title since the split between EA and FIFA, caused a fair amount of confusion about the future of the franchise. So, here’s all you need to know about this FIFA alternative right here.
What is EA Sports FC? Alternative to the next FIFA game
The new official football game from EA Sports is EA FC 24 and acts as an alternative to the FIFA games going forward. FIFA 23 represented the company’s final title to use the name and they will no longer be using ‘FIFA’ for branding.
This all came about in 2022 when EA Sports decided not to renew their license agreement with FIFA – the Federation Internationale de Football Association.
Outside of the rebranding of the name, every EA SPORTS FC titles going forward will maintain all the hallmarks of a traditional FIFA game. For example, Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Pro Clubs, and all the fan-favorite modes that fans have come to love over the years.

Despite losing the official FIFA license, EA SPORTS FC still retains official licenses for teams, kits, and leagues.
Will there be a FIFA game?
It’s been confirmed that there will indeed be a new football game carrying the FIFA name. It won’t be from EA Sports though, which means it will act as a direct competitor to the FIFA alternative EA Sports FC and will be made by a new developer entirely.
We’ll update you once FIFA decides to announce its new football game. If there are no proper development plans in place right now, then the game may not get a 2024 release date – meaning FIFA 25 will become FIFA 26.
