UPDATE: The massive v1.13 Modern Warfare update is now live and you can check out a breakdown of everything it contains in our official patch notes page.
Call of Duty developers Infinity Ward have announced a major update coming to Modern Warfare on January 22, which will include the brand new Crossbow, five additional class slots, fixes for player collisions as well as slide-canceling, and more.
It’s been a while since there was a major patch released for Modern Warfare since Season 1 first launched back in early December. While there have been a couple here and there, most of the updates have been playlist changes, shuffling around the modes and playlists available in multiplayer.
However, Infinity Ward have confirmed that the next big update will be coming on January 22, set to include both new content, such as the Crossbow, and fixes for some of the urgent issues plaguing the game.

When does the update go live?
Infinity Ward haven’t confirmed exactly when this patch will hit live servers, but the usual time for when they release updates is 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. Whenever it does go live, fans should expect the download size to be considerably large, so it could take a while for the update to download and install.
What’s new?
CROSSBOW
The Crossbow will be the marquee piece of new content that this update will introduce in Modern Warfare, becoming the third new weapon to be added since the game’s release (Holger-26 and RAM-7)
The Crossbow will, of course, be free to all players on all platforms, however, unlike those two other guns, players will be able to unlock it by completing an in-game challenge, rather than leveling up to a specific Battle Pass tier.

“Arriving on January 22, this super-sleek one-hit-kill weapon is available to earn and add to your Modern Warfare arsenal,” reads the announcement. “Visit the Marksman Rifles tab in the Loadout menu to find the Crossbow. You’ll have to complete a Marksman Rifle related challenge in order to earn this bad bolt of a weapon.”
ADDITIONAL LOADOUT SLOTS
This January 22 update will also add five additional loadout slots for players to use in multiplayer – something that had been highly requested from the fan-base since the start of the game.
Since Modern Warfare does not offer the option to Prestige that almost every other CoD in the past featured, there still isn’t a way for players to increase the number of Loadouts they can use, so everyone’s been stuck on five since day one.
Fixes for major issues
While Modern Warfare still has more than its fair share of bugs, exploits, and glitches, all of them can’t be fixed at once, so Infinity Ward are looking to patch at least some of the major issues with this next update.
One of those is player collision, also referred to as teammate body-blocking, which drastically increased following the December 18 update, instantly becoming a nuisance for a lot of players.
While not confirmed, another one is the slide-cancel movement exploit, which allows players to skip the recovery state when sliding and come out of the slide being able to aim down sights right away.
There are bound to be some more issues that get addressed with this update, so we’ll just have to wait for the patch notes to see exactly what’s been fixed.
