The Flordia-based franchise which will compete in the 2020 Call of Duty League has officially announced that they will be called ‘Florida Mutineers’ and given fans a first look at their brand new logo.

The inaugural CDL season is officially set to kick off in 2020, with 12 teams competing in the first franchised format in the history of the popular console esport.

Each team is based in a city somewhere in North America and Europe, and the Florida franchise has become the latest organization to announce their name and logo, unveiling the Florida Mutineers branding in an announcement on Monday, October 28.

Flordia MutineersThe Florida Mutineers have employed a pirate theme.

The team, which is operated by Misfits Gaming, says that they are inspired by the “history of pirates off the Flordia coast,” and much like the swashbuckling scoundrels of old, the team is “relentless, unapologetic, determined and always play their own way in pursuit of victory.

“You might picture sunshine and oranges when you think of Flordia, but we like to look at things differently,” the team writes on the official CDL website. “The people of Florida forge their own patch, we are determined, adventurous and value community above all things.”

The team’s logo looks similar to the iconic Davy Jones character from the Pirates of the Carribean franchise, which was based on the superstition of Davy Jones’ Locker, another term for the bottom of the ocean where ships would end up if they were to sink.

The team makes use of teal and orange as their primary colors, and will be using ‘Fear the Deep’ as their mantra throughout their CDL campaign.

Florida Mutineers have become the eighth team to unveil their branding, following on from Toronto Ultras and New York Subliners who showed off their new names and logos last week. Only Seattle, Chicago, Minnesota and Paris have yet to reveal their official names.
