CoD Warzone dev responds to wrong players receiving kill credit

Call of Duty: Warzone players have been noticing a discrepancy when downing an enemy but not receiving kill credit, prompting a response from Infinity Ward.

This sort of problem has been seen in battle royales like Fortnite in its early seasons, where players would look to land the final few shots on a downed enemy to steal the kill.

As it stands, even if a player downs an opponent in Warzone, the person who actually finishes off the player will get credit for the takedown. This can lead to stat-padding players hanging back on a fight, just to wait at the last moment to claim a kill from an already-downed foe.

Some Warzone players tend to steal kills while teammates aren’t looking.

To combat this matter before it starts to become a problem, Infinity Ward Co-Design Director of Multiplayer Joe Cecot said that the studio is already on the job.

In fact, the IW dev claimed a fix for the problem was already complete on their end, except that it had just “missed” being packaged with the initial launch of Warzone.

“In the next title update (larger update), the person who downed will get the kill credit,” Cecot said. “The change just missed release.”

That’s going to be great news for players in general. Even without toxic users, typically squads will want to take out downed enemies as quickly as possible to prevent them from retreating and possibly getting revived.

While there are instances of good players unknowingly taking kills, fans have been running into a more likely scenario of toxic randoms.

Those players can easily sour the gameplay experience for entire squads, making Warzone feel less rewarding or fun.

The next Warzone patch will give proper kill credit to players.

“These randoms will thirst your kills faster than anything,” Reddit user ‘EzE408’ said, reacting to the news of the upcoming fix. “Had a guy shoot a rocket at the guy I downed last night (on drop in). I was stuck in a reload.”

Hopefully the problem will be a thing of the past after Infinity Ward release their first major update, which should have a fix to credit players with the kills they earned.
