Challengers events have switched to an online structure for the foreseeable future,.

Amateur Call of Duty teams were able to compete in five LAN Challengers events throughout the first three months of the year. However, as CDL switched to an online format, the amateur scene was left hanging for a number of weeks.

Their fears have been put to rest though, with Challenger Cups being added to the tournament circuit. The five online tournaments, spanning across three regions, will give tier-two players access to a combined prize pool of $250,000 USD.

The first Challengers Cup will take place on April 18. $5,000 will be on the line for APAC, $20,000 for Europe, and $25,000 for North America.

Players will also earn Challengers Points for their efforts in the new tournaments. The top team will earn 5,000 points per player.

However, what these points turn into at the end of the year is yet to be revealed.

Events continue throughout each region every fortnight with the same prize pools until five Cups come to an end. CDL’s Jack Felling also hinted that Challengers will receive a dedicated broadcast on Sundays.

With an extra $250,000 now up for grabs, there’s plenty for Challengers players to fight for. These cups aren’t going to be replacing CDL online opens, which run every week there’s tier-one games on.
