Boxing superstar Ryan Garcia’s next opponent has been revealed by his Golden Boy Promotions promoter Oscar De La Hoya.

Having previously held an interim world lightweight title with the WBC, Garcia is now rebuilding at super-lightweight following a crushing loss to Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis in April last year.

The 25-year-old returned to the ring in December with an impressive eighth-round stoppage of Oscar Duarte and now the plan is to step up the competition as ‘King Ry’ looks to build towards world honors at 140 pounds.

Garcia’s promoter, former six-weight world champion Oscar De La Hoya, took to X on Wednesday to confirm a fight with former unified super-lightweight world champion Jose Ramirez is ‘getting close and happening’.

Ramirez will prove an acid test of Garcia’s credentials

While Garcia has long been heralded as a future world champion and superstar of the sport, Ramirez has been there and done it and will prove a huge test of Garcia’s ambitions at super-lightweight.

The 31-year-old is a former US Olympian and previously held the WBC and WBO super-lightweight world titles.

He challenged Britain’s Josh Taylor to become the undisputed super-lightweight world champion in 2021 but was dropped to the canvas twice in a unanimous decision defeat.

That remains the only blemish on his record, though, and he has since rebuilt with two impressive wins over former world champions Jose Pedraza and Richard Commey.

Ramirez recently inked a promotional deal with Golden Boy after his deal with Top Rank came to an end and now De La Hoya is planning on pitting two of his prized assets against one another in a mega fight this year.
