Baldur’s Gate 3 bug swaps a tiny Astarion for a hamster

A Baldur’s Gate 3 player is experiencing a mod-fueled series of bugs that keep swapping character models in the game. The best one yet is one that gave them a tiny Astarion in place of Boo the hamster.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is host to a bunch of memorable characters but none more so than the game’s suite of Companions. Among them, Astarion is certainly the favorite, at least as far as fan fiction numbers go.

Even the vampiric High Elf’s award-winning voice actor had no idea that the character would become so beloved. The only character in Baldur’s Gate 3 more lovable than Astarion might be Minsc’s adorable little hamster Boo.

Thanks to a peculiar bug that may have been caused by some mod usage, we have the best of both. Reddit user u/TylerBourbon posted a screenshot of their current run in which Misc was holding a tiny Asterion whose character model was somehow swapped with his famous pet.

“My current play-through has been littered with character models being swapped out during “cut scenes” and this by far is the most bizarre,” the player explained. “Boo has been replaced by a tiny Astarion who has some sort of massive poofy dress version of his armor.”

They have admitted to using a suite of mods but to this point, those mods hadn’t impacted any previous playthroughs. Oddly enough, other players don’t think they should endeavor to fix the issue because the result is just too funny.

“I would’ve suggested you reinstall, but I think you’ve just stumbled upon pure perfection,” one player noted. “I can’t imagine what happened, and while I hope it fixes itself, part of me is wishing it doesn’t,” another replied.

The birth of what we’re calling Hamstarion is a joyous occasion for most onlookers but u/TylerBourbon has apparently identified the source of the issue and is going to rectify it by uninstalling the mod responsible.

The phenomenon caused a lot of questions among players who saw this particular model swap in Baldur’s Gate 3 but one is the most pertinent of all.

“My only question is where is the Astarion-sized Boo?”
