Revenant is one of the most mysterious characters in Apex Legends, but thanks to various leaks, we know a bit more than we probably should about them, and their potential future role as a playable legend.
First leaked back in August by reputable data miner That1MiningGuy, Revenant is unlike any other legend in the game, for a number of reasons.
After being leaked, Revenant was actually added to Apex Legends officially, but not as we expected – as the creepy evil mastermind behind the Shadowfall LTM mode.
In the November update for Apex Legends, v3.1, some major changes were made to this character in the game files, including their abilities.

Revenant’s abilities
Revenant stood out among all the other leaked legends thanks to a unique ‘stance’ system, which granted the character two separate sets of abilities. However, after the v3.1 update, it appears that these abilities have now been compounded into just one stance – the ‘Shadow’ stance is no more.
His first stance is just the ‘regular stance‘, which has the following abilities:
- Passive: Infiltrator – Climb walls higher and crouch walk faster
- Mark for Death – Fire a poison dagger. Press again to reveal the target’s location for up to 60 seconds. The mark is removed if the target heals to full.
- Poison Bomb – Launch a Poison Bomb that damages and slows targets hit. This skill will likely deal Area of Effect (AoE) damage.
- Death Recall: Drop a totem that protects anyone who uses it from death. Instead of getting killed or downed, you’ll return to the totem with 20 health.

These were the abilities for Revenant’s ‘shadow stance‘, but these have now been removed from the game files:
- Passive: Infiltrator – Climb walls higher and crouch walk faster
- Shadow Walk – Walk silently and faster for 6 seconds. Cool down resets on kill.
- Shadow Step – Send out a shadow Revenant. Press (button) again to teleport to shadow. Cool down resets on kill.
- Shadow Door – Create a doorway through walls. Lasts 5 seconds.
That1MiningGuy’s video was the first to find these leaked abilities and stances. Note that some of these details are now outdated, following the v3.1 update.

Revenant Finishers, Gladiator Cards, and possible icon
Following the major update that went live on December 3, That1MiningGuy found and leaked more information about Revenant from the back-end game files, including potential Finishers and Gladiator Cards.
Furthermore, the data-miner was also able to procure what could be the in-game icon for Revenant, featuring a facemask that looks very similar to what we’ve seen the unreleased Legend wear in other leaked images.

Revenant audio leaks
On December 23, That1MiningGuy found and leaked new audio files from the Apex Legends back-end game files that are apparently for Revenant’s Mark for Death ability.
The files have since been compiled into a single SoundCloud track so that players will be able to listen to it for themselves.
Who is Revenant?
Although we know the tentative abilities (which are, as always, subject to change in development), the backstory to Revenant is still rather mysterious.
The game files initially nicknamed the character as a “Nightmare Simulacrum”, which Titanfall 2 fans will know as characters like ‘Ash’. In the 3.1 update though, Simulacrum was dropped, and changed to ‘Synthetic Nightmare’ instead.
Simulacrums are robotic, but, unlike Pathfinder, they have the mind or “consciousness” of a human, making them super soldiers of a kind.
Ash in Titanfall 2 is a ‘simulacrum’.

When is Revenant coming to Apex Legends?
The next legend we expect to see added to the game is Rosie (a.k.a Loba), as she is apparently the most far along in development.
However, a Respawn developer actually tweeted this image, which shows Revenant on the banner in Kings Canyon, shortly before the Shadowfall LTM was added.
Revenant can be seen on the Legend banner in Kings Canyon.
Considering Revenant has now been spotted in Apex officially, thanks to the Shadowfall LTM, it’s possible that plans have changed, and that it may the next addition.
Whatever the case, we likely won’t see a new legend until Season 4, in late 2019 / early 2020, if Respawn stick to their schedule of one new legend a season.
