An Apex Legends dev has confirmed that Respawn is “actively” looking for ways to improve the solo gameplay experience.

With players only able to queue for Duos and Trios in the Outlands, Apex Legends is a team-based game at its heart and requires a squad to work in conjunction if they want to secure a victory.

Although this is perfect for groups of players queueing up together and communicating on voice, the solo experience has been heavily criticized since the title’s release back in 2019.

While a portion of the community believes Respawn should introduce a solo-queue mode, the devs have made it very clear this isn’t an option as it would render a lot of the characters with team-based abilities useless.

Despite this, in a recent interview with The Loadout, a dev has acknowledged that solo players do face a lot of problems and confirmed the team is working on improving the overall experience.

Apex devs are working on improving the solo experience

Speaking to The Loadout, Apex Legends Design Director Evan Nikolich addressed an idea from former pro Eric ‘Snip3down’ Wrona who suggested that solo players in Ranked should get discounted RP entry costs as three stacks have a huge advantage over them.

Nikolich acknowledged that it was an “interesting pitch”, but disagreed that it would be an appropriate solution as it could get confusing for players and the devs aren’t keen on adjusting RP costs on a team-by-team basis.

Instead, Nikolich admitted that “there is room to improve the solo experience”, and that the team is “working” on possible solutions.

“I definitely think there is room to improve the solo experience. We have heard player concerns here and we are actively looking for ways we can make things better for solo queue players. We can’t share any additional details at this time, but rest assured knowing we’re working on it.”

Although this isn’t the conclusive answer a lot of players are looking to hear, it’s reassuring that they’re aware of the problems facing solo competitors.

However, for the time being, Nikolich made it clear that they “can’t share any additional details at this time”, so we’ll just have to wait for an official announcement.
