Apex Legends was an instant hit when it released out of nowhere on February 4, 2019 – thanks in part because it’s free to play and its popularity of Twitch, plus the game is just fun to play.

Though it couldn’t sustain it’s initial Twitch numbers Apex is still a go-to on the platform, and the battle royale seems to have had no trouble attracting regular players as well.

Apex Legends is now a “core” franchise

On Twitter the game celebrated 70 million players worldwide with a special video and thanks to the community that made the milestone happen.

Since Apex has released the game has introduced three new legends (Octane, Wattson and Crypto) along with limited-time events and even a new map, which has helped to keep things fresh for players.

EA also announced they had made Apex Legends a “core franchise” and that they were adding additional developers to the team.

Whether additional developers mean more content like maps, cosmetics, additional modes, gameplay updates, or something else entirely remains to be seen.

When will Apex Legends be coming to Steam?

EA games confirmed on October 29 that it’s “core” multiplayer titles – including Apex Legends, FIFA, and Battlefield V – would become available on both Origin and Steam sometime in 2020.

Of course, EA is set to come out with its own game streaming service – EA Access – sometime around Spring 2020, which could be when Apex heads to Steam and Origin as well.

Whenever the game comes to Steam or other platforms, it’s clear EA is putting plenty of support into Apex for the foreseeable future.
