5 features Apex Legends needs in Season 5

Respawn Entertainment has a big job on their hands with Apex Legends Season 5, especially if they’re looking to top the game’s last major update, and there are five main things many players will be expecting to see.

In Season 4, we were introduced to new ways of playing the Apex Games, with weapons given different types of ammo and – of course – the arrival of a brand new legend, Revenant.

Since that time, the rumor mill has been turning pretty fast as we approach the next in-game shakeup, with multiple leaks potentially uncovering future characters, content that could be coming soon and much more. However, amongst all of that information is a quintet of ideas that we are very much hoping are added in Season 5, so let’s run through them.

5 things Apex Legends Season 5 should include

Cross play

In the four long seasons that have taken place in Apex Legends, we have seen everything from flyers and Leviathans arrive in Kings Canyon, to a brand new map called World’s Edge with everything in between. But it’s astonishing that still, after so much time, Respawn are still yet to offer the chance for players – no matter their platform – to connect online.

Cross play would be one of the most popular additional features to the game and has been adopted by several other battle royale game franchises, including Fortnite and PUBG, so why not for Apex Legends as well?

Loba/Rosie

Apex Legends players have been snooping for next Legend clues for some time, with Loba/Rosie emerging as a real possibility.

The roster of Legends is an ever-growing beast in Apex, with one new face appearing at each phase of the game’s development. Now, there have been several potential candidates emerge for the Season 5 slot, aside from Forge, who was seemingly eliminated by Revenant to kick off S4.

Based on leaks and rumors, the likes of Nomad, Immortal, Blisk, Rampart, Jericho and more are in the works, although it’s unclear which of these will emerge. A whole bunch of these have even had specific details, such as there abilities leaked, which would suggest they are quite some way into their development as fully-fledged characters of the game. None have appeared just yet, though.

However, there’s no leaked legend that would be more fitting than Loba, really. The character, also known as Rosie, has potentially been teased in several ways in the past, including a sighting of a wolf at Harvester back in February (below).

This wolf may be a link between a young girl spotted in Revenant’s Season 4 first-look trailer, with players theorizing that the young girl may appear as Loba or Rosie in-game to seek revenge on Revenant at some stage. After all, she was carrying a wolf figurine in the official video.

Since then, leaker iLootGames has revealed what might be our first-look at the next legend to be added, revealing a video on Twitter.

The connection between the young girl and the next addition to Apex Legends might not necessarily be accurate, but one thing is for sure: wolf-themed Legend or not, Loba would be a fantastic addition to the Apex Games.

New Apex Legends Season 5 map

Titanfall Wiki
Demeter was destroyed in the Frontier War, but taking the Apex Games to another Titanfall planet isn’t out of the question.

Kings Canyon lasted two seasons and so too has World’s Edge – thus far. Now, if that’s a strategy or format that developers intend to stick with in the battle royale game, we could see another part of the world emerge as a new arena very soon.

The current map was a bolt out of the blue where aesthetics are concerned, located on the planet of Talos. That said, Kings Canyon was on planet Solace, so if there is to be a fresh map design coming in Season 5, there’s also a very good chance players will be introduced to another planet from the world, too.

There are a number of other planets known to be part of the Apex solar system, some of which can be found below. A few were included in the great Frontier War, so there is also the possibility of bringing conflict back to a place that’s been battered by war over time, as other were completely destroyed – such as Typhon and Demeter. It would also be interesting to take over Leviathan, just like the Leviathans did in Kings Canyon back in the day.

PVE mode

Bloodhound in Apex Legends.EA
Having to fight against players and NPCs would give Apex Legends a completely different feel, and it’s not out of the realms of possibility either.

Battling other legends is all well and good, but what about fighting against the environment itself – potentially on a new map!

The idea of a PVE (Player v Environment) mode isn’t just something that’s come up out of thin air, as it has been leaked on numerous occasions by data miners. Back in September 2019, for example, evidence in the game’s data files suggested a whole host of in-game enemies would soon wreak havoc in the Apex Games – but it never materalized.

Not only that, however, but a whole host of in-game challenges also looked set to be added to the game alongside these monsters. That, too, never came to fruition.

According to That1MiningGuy, who was previously an accurate leaker but has since quit social media, the following would eventually make their way into the game:

  • Grunt Shield Captain
  • Spectre
  • Reaper
  • Special Force’s Sniper
  • Blisk’s Titan
  • Target Titan
  • Prowler
  • Alpha Prowler
  • Goliath
  • Stalker
  • Crimson Elite
  • Swamp Spider
  • Infected Spider

With the beginning of Season 5 very much on the horizon, there is a real opportunity for Respawn to completely change the way we play Apex Legends and fending off NPC characters could be a really creative way of doing just that.

The layers of strategy, different ways to defeat each beast, would also make things challenging – or, simply adding NPC threats to the normal battle royale format and have players battle against both forms of enemy. The options are endless, but hopefully S5 will bring an end to the wait.

Making lore playable

Respawn Entertainment
There is a real demand for Legends’ lore and perhaps EA should do more to quench that thirst.

One thing that no other battle royale game has done is the development of characters, in the way Apex has. Each has unique sets of abilities, personality traits, not to mention huge followings as well.

With the thirst for lore material and backstory clearly evident, it would make sense to bring epic trailers like that of Revenant and Wattson to life. Allow the players to be the one who gets the chance to feel what it’s like to be these characters in different points in time, and produce it as either an optional single-player playlist or as downloadable content that people can buy. Imagine having this trailer as a cutscene, for example.

If the next Legend does turn out to be Lob/Rosie, there will be a significant amount of interest in her background, what led her into battle, and more things of that nature. On the other hand, those who main – for example – Pathfinder, for argument sake, might also want to play single-player missions and learn more about their in-game fighter.

This would present another money stream for developers, as members of the community could purchase packs of missions in a Telltale style system, and then present other opportunities for them to drop hints and cryptic clues players can find. After all, the more we know about the characters, the more we’re invested. It seems like a no-brainer.

So, there you have it! Those are the five things we would like Respawn Entertainment to deliver as part of Apex Legends Season 5. What would you like to see added next? Let us know on Twitter @TitanfallBlog.
