Shinjuku Showdown Arc sees the sorcerers finally join forces to fight against Sukuna. This has led many to believe that this is the final Jujutsu Kaisen Arc ever, but is that true?
Jujutsu Kaisen is currently one of the biggest manga and anime series in the world. Despite being relatively young, with its first chapter releasing in 2018, it’s already competing with older titles like One Piece, My Hero Academia, and Black Clover.
Over its six years of serialization, Jujutsu Kaisen has had 11 arcs, with Shinjuku Showdown ongoing right now. This arc started in 2023 with Chapter 222 and has been running for 40 chapters.
Shinjuku Showdown is known for the much-anticipated fight between Gojo and Sukuna, and shows the sorcerers hitting rock bottom as Sukuna regains his original body and full strength. It’s considered one of the best Jujutsu Kaisen arcs, but is it the last one?
Is Shinjuku Showdown the final arc of Jujutsu Kaisen?
Shinjuku Showdown is the final arc of Jujutsu Kaisen.
After much speculation, the ending of the manga is finally confirmed by the author. In a recent interview, Gege Akutami revealed how the Culling Game Arc is the constructed as the penultimate arc of the manga, meant to set things up for the final arc.
“I thought of it as a crutch for taking us towards the Inhumane Makyo Shinjuku arc (final section/saga). I had already decided on the things that had to happen (like characters and Colony stuff),” revealed the author, “but I kept each Colony segment contained to be its own individual volume, and thought about how to make them as exciting as possible as I progressed.”
He continued, “I remember having a discussion with my Editor about how it’d be nice if each Volume should be like its own sort of album.”
What’s more, the word the author used to address it means “final part”. This cements the fact that Jujutsu Kaisen is really ending with the ongoing arc. And it’s coming sooner than we’d like. As the manga’s author teased earlier: “Jujutsu Kaisen ‘Shinjuku Showdown’ arc is at its CLIMAX!!”

In short, we have little time left with the beloved shonen manga. However, given the point the story is at and the number of plot threads left loose, it’ll be a while before we say goodbye to Jujutsu Kaisen.
What happens in Jujutsu Kaisen after the Shinjuku Showdown Arc?
Since the Shinjuku Showdown Arc hasn’t ended yet, it’s difficult to say what’ll happen next. Given the unpredictability of the author, it’s anyone’s guess, really. It’s possible that there won’t be a traditional happy ending to the story.
But one thing is for certain: when the story ends, the villain must be vanquished. So, we can at least expect Sukuna’s defeat by the story’s end. Now the biggest question is the survival of Yuji and Megumi.
What will happen to the rest of the cast is anybody’s guess. Many major character deaths, like Gojo, Choso, Higuruma, Kashimo, and Kenjaku, occurred in the current arc. Those who are left aren’t safe either. That’s particularly true for Yuta, as he’s fighting Sukuna again after taking over Gojo’s body.
Other than the characters, Jujutsu Kaisen also has to resolve the merger issue before its conclusion. Given how important of a plot line this is, many believed the Merger Arc will follow the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. But since it won’t be the case, the manga will have to neat wrap it up.
So, we may be looking towards a sizeable number of upcoming chapters in the future. At least, that’s what the manga will need if it doesn’t rush the story. But with Jujutsu Kaisen’s track record, we can safely believe that won’t be the case.
For now, Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 262 will be released on June 9, 2024. For more on sorcerers and curses, check out our articles on Yuji’s cursed technique Shrine, Yuta Okkotsu’s Domain Expansion, and the strongest characters Sukuna defeated.
