Jujutsu Kaisen is consistently stunning as an anime, but one fan has reimagined the property as an American cartoon from the early 2000s, and we’re a bit obsessed.
Since the anime premiered in October 2020, Jujutsu Kaisen has become one of the biggest franchises within the medium. The manga by Gege Akutami was already popular, then the anime show took Yuji and the school of dark sorcery to new heights with intriguing worldbuilding and some gut-wrenching characterization.
MAPPA has been doing an amazing job bringing the manga to life, but another version, drawing inspiration from classic Cartoon Network shows, has sparked our imagination for what could be. Plenty of fans agree, too.
Jujutsu Kaisen looks amazing as a Cartoon Network series
Jujutsu Kaisen redone in the style of a late ’90s/early 2000s show from Cartoon Network has been posted to TikTok, and it looks amazing. User @shizzeka posted a gallery of various scenes involving the characters, and they nail the vibe so well it has me wondering if a spin-off isn’t possible.

As comments point out, the style of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Samurai Jack would absolutely suit Jujutsu Kaisen. Cartoon Network commissioned a number of properties with heavy influence from anime, such as Samurai Jack and Xaolin Showdown, so there’s some crossover. These images have cult classic written all over them – something that only lasted a couple of seasons, but resonates forever in our collective nostalgia.
Sadly, this is just a flight of fancy, but the main show is made by MAPPA so we’re definitely not left wanting. We’re waiting for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 right now, since the second season finished late last year. If nothing else, this has only made our anticipation grow.
