Death Note creators offers the US President a notebook in new manga

Death Note author Tsugumi Ohba and illustrator Takeshi Obata joined forces to give readers a new one-off manga of the popular series. However, the latest story went viral on Twitter when it was discovered United States President has a cameo in it.

Death Note is one of the most popular mangas in Japan, running from 2003 to 2006. The series centers around the dark story about a high school boy who’s given the power to decide life and death through the power of a notebook.

Despite ending over 14 years ago, the groundbreaking property made its return on February 3rd when its creators surprised fans with a special one-shot. However, the release quickly went viral when it was discovered the President of the United States has a bizarre cameo in it.

The groundbreaking story is about high schooler Light Yagami who stumbles upon a supernatural notebook. The item gives him the power to kill anyone by writing their name down inside.

While the manga ended in 2006, fans were treated to a new one-shot story by series creators, but were stunned when it featured US President. The special release depicts a scene of Ryuk – the Death God responsible for the notebook – offering the US leader the chance to be its new owner.

After its February 3 release, the story quickly went viral on social media platforms such as Twitter. Even trending in the ‘Politics’ section given its unexpected inclusion of the American politician.

Fans of the series were surprised by the cameo, such as user ATTACKTlTAN who exclaimed, “DEATH NOTE COMING BACK JUST FOR THE PRESIDENT TO BE THE NEW OWNER IS NOT SOMETHING I EXPECTED THIS YEAR”

The manga’s inclusion of the world leader exploded on Twitter with thousands of people finding the strange scene to be amusing. C_Dobbins commented, “This is an actual panel from the new Death Note one-shot and I am absolutely losing it.”

While the revival of the groundbreaking property was only a one-shot, the creators sent shockwaves with its latest release. Perhaps there is a room for more stories in the series universe in the future?

Death Note originally released as a manga in the iconic Japanese magazine the Weekly Shonen Jump. However it found worldwide success when it was adapted into an anime by studio Madhouse in 2006.

Fans that have never seen the show before can catch the whole series on streaming services Netflix and Hulu.
